Nokia Sues Apple with 13 Additional Patents

Legal battle between Nokia vs. Apple's getting hot. Nokia also added 13 patents in the lawsuit.

Nokia filed a claim in some courts as well as with Apple's allegations violate their patents. As quoted from Cellular News, Friday (17/12/2010), there are 13 patents infringed Nokia is considered to be Apple.

Nokia filed the lawsuit in the UK (High Court), Germany (Dusseldorf and Manheim District Court) and Holland (District Court of The Hague).

Nokia claims Apple illegitimate patent them through the products sold in these countries. Violations allegedly committed by several products, including iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

"It added 13 patents to the 24 patents that had been submitted to Nokia via the U.S. International Trade Commission and federal courts in Delaware and Wisconsin,"said Paul Melin, VP of Intellectual Property Nokia.

What are covered by the patent? Melin said some of them are sweeping motion over the touch screen as well as features that allow access to the ever-changing service via app store on the device.

Here penjabarannya based on the location of the lawsuit:

     * In the UK there are 4 patents related to touch-screen interface, the app store in the device, signal noise suppression and structure of the modulator.
     * In Dusseldorf, 7 patents related to touch-screen interface, an antenna structure, functions, messaging and chipset.
     * In Mannheim, 5 patents related to the app store, caller ID, the lighting display and integration of multiple radio.
     * In the Netherlands, 2 patents related to signal noise suppression and function of the data card.


According to Melin several patents that are owned by Nokia 10 years before the iPhone launched. Then, no single patent that is so inherent part of wireless communication standard.
