Skype Threatened silenced China


China re-launched site blocking stance. Bamboo Curtain Authority in the country, in this case the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reported to have decided that internet phone service Skype is such a thing illegal.

According to media People's Daily reported by Vnunet and quoted on Monday (3/1/2010), the decision was taken to protect the domestic telecom business China Telecom and China Unicom. Therefore, communication VoIP (voice over internet protocol) by private parties are not allowed, except those provided by the government.

"This is ridiculous, because the VoIP technology is popular all over the world,"the response of disapproval from Kan Kaili, a professor at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.

Announcements from the Information Ministry did not mention the provider is prohibited. But citing sources related officials, the media People's Daily believes Skype service will be muzzled in China.

Obviously, this news was disappointing Skype users in China. The local company that used to rely on communication via VoIP to cut costs, will also be affected.

Chinese authorities since long been known without doubt to silence a website for a specific reason. Previously, sites such as Facebook and YouTube has been banned there
